Linkedin.com

Linkedin.com is a social media platform for professionals and businesses, and it is the largest of all professional networks in the world. It is mostly used for professional networking and that includes job posting by employers and CV (resume) posting by job seekers. Linkedin.com has more than 660 million users 200 countries and territories and it is available in 24 languages. Social networking is free. Members who want more services from linkedin.com (such as sending direct messages, and seeing more specifics) have to become premium members. The premium options are Job Seeker, Business, Recruiter and Sales Navigator.

Linkedin.com enables workers and employers (who are members) to create profiles on their website. Users can post their own photos and view other members’ photos and they can follow different companies. Then they all form connections to each other in a social network which is quite close to real-world professional connections. Members are allowed to invite anyone of interest, whether they are LinkedIn members or not, to become a connection.

Individuals can use connections in many different ways, such as to get connected to connections’ connections, to be introduced to connections’ connections who work for specific companies, and to find jobs and business opportunities recommended by connections. Job seekers can review the profiles of hiring managers and find out which one of their connections can introduce them. Members can “like” and “congratulate” their connections’ updates and new employment and wish each other happy birthday. Users can upload videos, write posts and articles and share them with their network.

Employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates among their connections’ connections, view potential employees’ profiles and check out their connections. Linkedin.com members can see who has visited their profile pages.

Linkedin.com employs a “gated-access approach” to others where contact with other professionals requires involvement of a contact of theirs or an existing relationship. The intention is to build trust among the website users.

Can linkedin.com be used for personal branding?

Linkedin.com is a social network which provides users with an opportunity to create their personal brands and is great for that. The profile is an aspect of personal branding because it showcases expertise and encourages new connections. Linkedin.com encourages users to provide enough profile information to maximise their visibility by search engines. At least three skills, at least 50 connections, two past positions, an up-to-date job description, a profile picture, liking and commenting on content, publishing blog articles and group involvement increases one’s profile and strengthens the personal brand.

Linkedin.com is available on mobile devices.
